Positive and Negative Progression Betting Systems

Playing casino games is among the activities people engage in for entertainment or opportunities to earn extra profit.

But regardless of whether you play casino games like baccarat, blackjack, and slot online in Singapore or partake in sports book betting for extra thrill or profit, you must strategically place your bets to maximise your bankroll and reduce risks of financial consequences.

Utilising betting systems is an excellent way to ensure you have a better chance of coming out on top. There are two main types of betting systems – positive and negative progression systems.

Positive Progression

Positive progression betting systems involve increasing the size of your bets when you win and decreasing them when you lose. This type of betting system is seen as less risky, as you will be able to maximise your profits if you are on a winning streak. However, there is also the risk that if you lose a few bets in a row, then you could find yourself in some financial difficulty. This is why it is imperative to have clear limits and stop betting when the limit is reached.

Below are four of the popular positive progression betting systems:

Paroli System

The Paroli System is one of the most popular and oldest forms of progressive betting. It is, essentially, an age-old positive progression system, as it encourages you to start with a pre-determined unit bet and double your bet following any wins. You continue to increase your bet after each win until a loss occurs. At this point, your bet returns to the base amount.

The progression will go like this on a winning streak, for example, with an initial stake of $10:

1-3-2-6 System

The 1-3-2-6 system is a less common but still effective progressive betting system. The way it works is that you begin by betting one unit. If you achieve your first win, you need to increase your bet to three units, then increase your stake to two units if you win the second time. Subsequently, if you win a third time, increase your bet to six units.

Your bet stays at six units until you suffer a loss. At this point, you return to a unit, and the process begins again. The upside of this system is that you can often obtain a much higher chance of winning a small profit with less risk.

For instance, if your pre-determined wager is $5 and you decided to employ the 1-3-2-6 system, this is how it can be applied:

Reverse Labouchere System

The Reverse Labouchere System is a modified version of the Labouchere System. The way it works is much more complex than Paroli and 1-3-2-6 systems—it can be challenging to implement either.

Here is a guide on how to use Reverse Labouchere System:

1. Decide on a specific sequence of numbers to base the system on.

2. Calculate your initial wager by adding the first and last numbers in your sequence.

3. If you win your first game with an initial wager of $7, add the amount staked at the end of your sequence. However, if the wager loses, you must remove the sequenece’s first and last number.

4. Repeat Step 2 to calculate your stake for your next bet; if it wins, repeat Step 3. In this step, the new sequence must be utilised.

*If you are on a losing streak and have only one number left in your sequence, your stake for your next bet should be that number. When all the numbers in your sequence are removed, the cycle is over, and you can start again with a new sequence.

Contra D’Alembert Betting System

The Contra D’Alembert betting system is a positive progression variation of the classic D’Alembert system. This system works on the same principles of Paroli and 1-3-2-6, except that you increase your wager by one base unit after a win. On the other hand, if you lose, you decrease your wager by one base unit.

Negative Progression

Negative progression systems are the opposite of positive progression systems. When using a negative progression system, you increase the size of your bets when you lose and decrease them when you win. This strategy can be seen as riskier than a positive progression system, as you may find yourself with fewer funds if you continue to lose. This can be a quick route to ruin if you are not careful.

Here are four of the popular negative progression systems:

Martingale System

Martingale System is among the oldest and best-known negative progression betting systems. The concept of the system is fairly simple and works by doubling your bets when you lose and returning to the original amount when you win a bet. It assumes that the more often you bet, the more likely you are to eventually win. It offers the gambler a way to cut losses and always remains in the game.

For instance, if your pre-determined wager is $2 and you decided to employ the Martingale system, this is how it can be applied:

Fibonacci Betting System

The Fibonacci Betting System is another popular negative progression betting system. Like the Martingale system, this system also requires the gambler to double his bets after every loss. However, instead of doubling the bet each time, the amount of the next bet is the sum of the two previous bets. Consequently, if you incur a win, you will move two numbers back down your sequence.

D’Alembert Betting System

D’Alembert betting system is a popular negative progression system. The main idea behind the system is that if you lose one bet, you bet one unit more. And conversely, if you win one bet, you bet one unit less. This system is designed to slowly increase the bet sizes after losses and gradually decrease them after wins.

Labouchere System

The Labouchere System is another popular negative progression system. This system is also known as the “Cancellation System” or the “Split Martingale,” as you are required to write down a sequence of numbers and then bet an amount equal to the sum of the first and last numbers. If the bet is won, the two numbers are cancelled; but, if the bet is lost, the lost amount is added to the end of the sequence. The aim of the system is to eventually cancel all the numbers in the sequence.
